What’s Mine To Do?

There are times when looking at the world can become overwhelming.

Everywhere you turn, you see suffering in your communities, instability in the larger culture, people who are struggling, systems that are not working well, and problems so large that it can be difficult to imagine what any one person could possibly do.

At those times, I often return to a simple question:
What is mine to do?

I have asked myself this question for many years, and I have offered it to others when they feel helpless in the face of something they care deeply about.

It is not a demand for an immediate answer.

Sometimes the most useful thing is simply to ask the question and allow it to remain in your awareness.

What is mine to do?
Then go on living your life.

Notice what catches your attention. Notice what continues to bother you. Notice the conversation you keep having, the person you unexpectedly meet, the organization someone mentions, the idea that appears while you are driving, walking, or making dinner.

The answer may arrive quickly or it may arrive months later. And sometimes it arrives somewhere entirely different from where you expected to find it.

The question is not asking you to solve everything you can see.

It is asking you to notice where your life actually touches the world.

That distinction matters.

I cannot solve child hunger in the United States. The scale of the problem is far beyond anything I could personally address.

Yet I know there are children in a neighborhood near me who regularly go to school hungry. That bothers me, so I attend to those neighbors in a way
that has meaning and an appropriate scale for my family.

I’m practical. Bringing food, clothing, and other material needs to SisterHood doesn’t solve the complex issues that people in this neighborhood face. Yet, it serves in its small way to touch bellies, clothe kids, offer school supplies, and bring small relief to the adults and teens alike.

If that issue or any bothers you, you might volunteer with an organization that already knows how to reach those families. You might donate money or supplies. You might learn which organizations are doing the work particularly well, align with your values, and direct your resources there.

I do not have to solve hunger to feed someone. This is what I mean by working at scale.

Sometimes you become immobilized in helplessness because you are mentally standing in front of the entire problem.

Climate change. Poverty. Violence. Loneliness. Children who are struggling. Older adults who are forgotten. People without adequate medical care. Animals who need protection. Families who cannot afford food. Young adults unable to find jobs. Parents losing jobs.

The scale is enormous. Of course you feel helpless at times.

But somewhere between doing nothing and fixing everything is the size at which a human life can actually participate.

There may be a very particular intersection between what bothers you, what you know how to do, what you have access to, and what you genuinely have the energy to participate in.

That intersection may be what is yours.

Not necessarily the largest problem. Not necessarily the person suffering most. And not the thing that would look most meaningful or impressive to someone else.

You locate the place where your actual capacity meets an actual need.

Perhaps you have time or money. You may understand technology, gardens, children, finance, medicine, animals, education, construction, writing, or caregiving. Maybe you’re a great listener, know how to organize projects, make a room full of people feel welcome, or just know someone who knows someone.

Perhaps you have lived through something that allows you to sit beside another person without being frightened by what they are experiencing.

There is one important consideration here. It’s important to make sure you have enough space in your own life right now to help.

If not, make some notes for the future. The world will need you then. It doesn’t need one more stretched person adding something to their plate.

You might notice that you have some capacity here.
Then ask: Where could it actually be useful?

There is no guilt required in that question. No moral scorecard. No obligation to make your life into a service project.

There are problems you will perceive that are not yours to solve. There are people you will care about whom you cannot rescue. There are systems you may understand quite clearly and still have no meaningful ability to change.

Discernment includes knowing that too.

“What is mine to do?” is not another way of asking, “What should I be
doing?”

It is quieter than that. It requires listening. Sometimes this question asks something of you.

Agency. Capacity. Responsibility. Relationship.

This question invites additional thoughtful questions.

Can I act?
Can I tolerate what acting requires?
Can I take responsibility for the part that is actually mine?
Can I do that while remaining in relationship with the people around me?

These are not small capacities.

They are part of how a human being becomes able to participate in the world without either turning away from what matters or becoming consumed by everything that hurts.

You do not have to understand the whole web.

Nor do you have to carry the complexity of the world’s troubles. You only have to discover where your thread meets it.

If something in the world is troubling you and you do not know what to do with that feeling, perhaps you do not need to force an answer.

Simply ask the question:
What is mine to do?

Let it travel with you for a while. And then notice what Life places in front of you.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

Seeking Treasure

When I was young, the neighborhood kids and I would spend an entire day playing a game we called Seeking Treasure.

Ranging in age from seven to eleven, we’d split into two teams and retreat to separate houses, where we sprawled across the floor mapping out a plan to outwit the other team. We’d write and decorate clever clues on slips of paper. Each team had a designated area of the neighborhood and a firm no spying rule.

We hid clues in trees, on porches, in birdhouses, and mailboxes.

Every game brought a new challenge as we searched for hiding places that would thwart the opposing team. One clue led to another. You didn’t know where you were going when you started, and you couldn’t gauge how far along the other team was in their quest.

That was the fun of it.

At the agreed-upon time, the teams met at a central location. Once the first clues were formally exchanged, the race began. I honestly can’t recall a single clue or whether there was even a treasure to be found.

Yet I have a visceral memory of packs of children running madly through the neighborhood. Putting our heads together to decipher a clue. Climbing trees, sticking our hands into small places, getting really dirty, and screaming wildly for everyone to hurry and keep up.

It was exhilarating fun.

I remember the pleasure of creating, the camaraderie, and a keen feeling of aliveness. Strangely, I have absolutely no memory of winning or losing.

Eventually, both teams ended up at the designated house where somebody’s mom had snacks waiting.

Apparently that’s when we learned that every good quest should end with celebration and plenty of food, no matter who won.

Somewhere along the way, we grew up and stopped seeking treasure.

Even if you never played a game like this, I imagine you left behind at least some of that childhood creativity, freedom of movement, playful exploration, and trust that one clue would somehow lead to another.

Instead, you probably became very good at figuring things out.

You make lists, research decisions, compare possibilities, and ask other people what they think. You may even try to understand what something means before you’ve had a chance to experience it and see what emerges.

There’s nothing wrong with thinking. Your intelligent mind serves you beautifully. But some things are discovered differently. Not by trying harder to find an answer, but by becoming receptive enough to notice what meets you.

I think we need to play again.

That’s the spirit behind Awaken Your Inner Oracle, a day of Oracle Card Readings and Treasure Mapping at Soul Sanctuary.

From time to time, I set up an adult play day. Imagine arriving among friends, new and old, with a few questions that are alive in your life and absolutely no requirement to know the answers.

Rather than running wild through the neighborhood, you  play with Oracle cards, share lunch together, and spend the afternoon seeking treasure throughout Soul Sanctuary.

It’s amazing what reveals itself when you relax, play, follow your curiosity, and discover how much more you perceive when you’re not trying so hard to be intuitive.

I’ve enjoyed so many days like this with others at Soul Sanctuary, sitting around playing with Oracle cards, seeking clues, and having no idea what we’ll find.

My favorite part is watching the doubt disappear as people discover how easily they can perceive the wisdom hidden in plain sight.

When I was running around the neighborhood all those years ago, I trusted that something would catch my attention and lead me toward the next clue. I didn’t need to know where I was going or how things would turn out before I began.

I just played.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

Walking with Wisdom

During the Seeding the Light Gathering, I had the privilege of hosting Pascual and Jose Tomas in our home.

They feel like family as this was their second visit to New Jersey. We’ve also spent a week together in Damanhur and the Temples of Humankind in Italy. I’ve sat in many ceremonies with Pascual in Peru’s Sacred Valley. His flute playing often carried me up mountain trails in the thin air and hot sun.

People often ask me what it is like to spend time with a Q’ero medicine man. The truth is, it is probably not what most people imagine.

Yes, there are powerful ceremonies. Beautiful prayers laid in despacho offerings with sincerity and devotion. Singing to the fire while burdens are released and energy centers are revitalized. There is the witnessing of power flowing through healings, blessing and rearranging lives at a foundational level. And a weaving of wisdom that is difficult to put into words but is felt rippling through every gathering.

And yet what strikes me most has nothing to do with ceremony. It is how Pascual engages ordinary life.

After a long day of healing sessions and ceremony, he hustled over for a group picture, smiling broadly, happy to be surrounded by people. Later that evening, Pascual stretched out on the couch to watch the World Cup as lively conversation bounced between English, Spanish, Quechua, and the universal language of cheers and groans.

Whenever we drove from one event to another, Pascual was interested in everything he saw. Buildings. Trees. People. Stores. Animals. His curiosity about life never appeared to diminish, and he welcomed our questions about life in Peru and his work as a medicine man.

Pascual approached every new experience with the same openness.

He enjoyed traditional Mexican and Italian dinners, American donuts at Dunkin’, ordering pizza, grilling burgers and corn on the cob, and sampling whatever was placed before him. We wandered the Grounds for Sculpture enjoying the art embedded within nature, snapping photos, and quietly witnessing a marriage proposal. We stopped at DSW for sneakers and enjoyed our Walmart adventure, where I insisted Pascual try on pants before buying them. We gathered thoughtful gifts to bring home to his family.

One afternoon someone arrived with a beautiful handwoven band for her hat. It didn’t quite fit.

Pascual examined it carefully. He decided it needed a few stitches. He asked me for a needle and thread and sat down to fix it himself.

No ceremony. No spiritual teaching. Just a man sewing a hat and quietly handing it back.

And somehow that, too, felt like a teaching.

Our gathering occurred during a heat wave. The chapel lost its air conditioning. Outdoors, it was 95 degrees in the shade. We were hot, yet no one seemed to notice. Everyone was so fully participating in the moment.

During a wisdom sharing, Pascual handed the microphone to Jose Tomas for translation. I was listening closely when Pascual poked me in my side. He whispered “Meditation,” pointing to my friend listening with his eyes closed and to a woman who was falling asleep in the heat. We dissolved into laughter. Pascual often drops into meditation (or perhaps takes a quick nap). We tease him about this often and he delighted in seeing others doing the same.

Bursting into laughter, making jokes, or just smiling for the joy of it all occurs in every circumstance. Ceremonies which exude power, genuine devotion, and pure prayers also contain bursts of laughter, hugs, and broad smiles.

He welcomed every gift with genuine gratitude. And often offers gifts in reciprocity for the care he is receiving. There is nothing forced in these exchanges. Just a natural way of being in reciprocity.

What touched me just as much was watching the participants naturally begin to do the same. Throughout the week they offered thoughtful gifts, expressions of gratitude, and small acts of kindness to Pascual and Jose Tomas. At the end of our time together they shared how deeply moved they were. Rather than feeling they had come to New Jersey simply to work, they felt they had gathered in ceremony with family.

Jose Tomas told us stories about how well known Pascual is. Not because he seeks attention. Quite the opposite. He has never seemed interested in being important. He is interested in people.

Whether speaking with airport workers in Cusco, blessing a soccer field in Curaçao, offering a despacho in the high Andes, or staying in touch with monthly phone calls, people seem naturally drawn to him.

Given these stories, we started calling him “Hollywood.” Pascual laughs every time he hears it.

Many people inhabit a role.
Shaman.
Teacher.
Healer.
Pascual inhabits his life.

His reverence for the sacred is inseparable from his reverence for everyday living.

Language and cultural differences don’t seem to matter much. To every experience, Pascual arrived with openness, curiosity, humor, and respect. People felt it and they responded with love, laughter, tears, joy, and respect.

For all the power people experienced in ceremony, I suspect this may be one of Pascual’s greatest teachings. He is fully present to what is arising in each moment.

Many people travel great distances seeking wisdom about how to live well.

Sometimes wisdom arrives in your home town carrying a market of handcrafts to support the Q’ero community. Relaxing during a soccer match. Purchasing gifts for family. Asking for a needle and thread. Working tirelessly through a heat wave. Enjoying a Pepsi. Offering powerful prayers one moment and delighting in an ordinary joke the next.

For me, the greatest gift was watching someone demonstrate how joy, love, wisdom, and power are a natural part of ordinary life.

It reminded me that being a person of wisdom isn’t defined by ceremony or role. It is revealed in the way we greet each person, receive each gift, meet each challenge, and participate fully in the ordinary moments of our lives.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

Via Sophia Retreat in Costa Rica

There comes a moment when something within you begins to shift.

Not because life is failing. Not because you have done something wrong.
But because what once felt meaningful no longer feels like enough.

Many women arrive at this threshold quietly. Others experience it more viscerally, through exhaustion, change, loss, longing, or the growing realization that the life they have carefully built no longer fully reflects who they are becoming.

You may already feel this happening within you now.

After years of showing up for others. Holding responsibilities, meeting expectations, and managing relationships. Decades of navigating constant stimulation, information, urgency, and demand. All the while trying to remain in step with the pressure toward constant self-improvement and personal achievement.

Yet somewhere beneath all of that, there is often a longing that is more difficult to name.

A longing for beauty, spaciousness, and freedom to flow with your own inner rhythm. A desire for genuine connection and depth without pressure to conform. A search for a way of living that feels more natural, embodied, and true.

Certainly not another system to master or demonstration of continued healing and evolution. Rather, some wiser inner invitation to return to something essential.

Via Sophia, the Way of Feminine Wisdom, emerged from this recognition.

Via Sophia is a path of embodied wisdom inviting you into a lived relationship with the Mystical Feminine. This way does not offer a specific idea or belief system.

It invites the recognition of a living intelligence encountered through experience, relationship, reflection, nature, rhythm, and the unfolding of your own life.

The Via Sophia Costa Rica Immersion was created as an immersive environment intentionally designed to support a different way of being.

Nestled in the lush mountains above the Pacific Ocean, Via Sophia finds a home in a private retreat sanctuary built in harmony with the natural world.

Jungle pathways, open air gathering spaces, waterfalls, tropical gardens, ocean views, and the steady rhythm of the land itself become part of the experience.

Mornings unfold slowly here.

Moments spent after waking upon a balcony overlooking the trees. Listening to the birdsong echoing through the jungle canopy. Warm air with a hint of the sea moving through open windows. Conversations lingering after shared meals in the platform dining area.

Each day brings teaching and reflection upon the Feminine Path of Wisdom. Simple practices and meaningful dialogue. Movement and stillness with space for inner listening and exploration.

You’ll experience the gift of spaciousness.

Time to rest. Time to breathe. Time to reconnect with yourself outside the pace and pressures of ordinary life. So you may naturally integrate what is arising within you and through the group.

In the rhythm of nature, in the presence of other women, and within a grounded and living field of shared experience, something begins to open.

Nothing is forced. You are not asked to adopt a belief, ideology, or spiritual framework. What wants to be known by you is simply revealed. Touching your interior, awakening your own wisdom.

And from this place, a different way of being begins to unfold.

A quieter relationship with yourself. A deeper trust in your own inner knowing. A more intimate participation with Life itself.

Each evening gathering offers space for what has been discovered throughout the day to be more deeply seen, felt, and embodied. As the moon rises and the jungle changes its song, you will move closer within your own lived expression of this path. Deepening within wisdom that arrives often by surprise.

Seeing clearly, loving compassionately, and laughing gently at the simplicity of living in alignment with life.

Via Sophia offers you an opportunity to inhabit your life with wisdom, gentleness, and spaciousness. Practically. Mystically. Beautifully.

October 16–24, 2026. Uvita, Costa Rica.

If you feel the call to join us, you will be welcomed warmly.  Please take a look as rooms are already booking.

All details and images of our private retreat space may be found on the Via Sophia Costa Rica Retreat page.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

Via Sophia. Modern Woman. Ancient Path.

I have been reading a series of novels set in the late nineteenth century that portray the social structures women were expected to live within.

Hardships were often hidden behind social niceties, beautiful homes, fashionable clothing, and the polite manner considered fitting for a lady of society. A woman’s ability to enjoy simple pleasures such as reading freely, choosing her friendships, or expressing her opinions was often restricted by her husband. Abuse was tolerated, and the risk of being sent to an asylum for “hysteria” was real if a woman challenged the status quo or stood in the way of an affair.

If they were fortunate, women in those times found ways to connect with one another, offer support, and quietly explore meaning beneath the surface of their lives.

Some women even learned how to play the social game skillfully. They fulfilled the expectations placed upon them while privately recognizing the petty absurdities woven into many of the rituals of polite society.

The modern woman may no longer face the threat of institutionalization for her independence or passionate expression, yet every era carries its own challenges.

I see how much many of you are navigating so many challenges at once. Family, work, relationships, and a wide range of responsibilities often overlap.
When you are raising children, managing a household, preparing teenagers for college, and supporting aging parents, it is easy to feel stretched thin and quietly undernourished.

Perhaps you recognize this feeling yourself. The sense that life is full and meaningful, yet something within you is asking for more depth, more space, or a quieter kind of wisdom.

Current culture asks a great deal of you. Performance, efficiency, and constant self-improvement are often held up as measures of success. These expectations are not only exhausting. They can slowly erode self-trust and create confusion about how to live in alignment with your own inner knowing.

Beneath this pressure, another message quietly circulates.

If you cannot manage it all gracefully, perhaps something is wrong with you. If you are still searching for meaning, perhaps you should try harder, optimize more, or elevate yourself spiritually.

Yet beneath the noise and speed of modern life, something older continues to move.

Steady and persistent. It does not hurry. It does not compete. It simply waits to be noticed.

Via Sophia, the Way of Wisdom, explores this natural rhythm through what I call the Feminine Spiral of Unfolding.

This 16 week Immersion will not ask you to fix yourself or become someone new. Rather, the Spiral Path invites a slowing down and a widening of perception.

Through reflection, conversation, and guided experience, you begin to recognize this unfolding rhythm where it already lives in the body, in the Earth, and in the quiet lineage of women who came before you.

The Feminine Spiral of Unfolding reveals patterns that have always been present in women’s lives. A movement of softening, enduring, choosing, releasing, and beginning again.

Via Sophia does not remove you from contemporary life. It strengthens your capacity to inhabit your life more deeply and more steadily.

As awareness grows, you begin to recognize the phases of this spiral within your own experience and within the wider feminine lineage that has always carried this wisdom.

When you live with awareness of this ancient rhythm while remaining fully present in modern life, something changes. Feminine wisdom begins to guide you quietly from within.

If this reflection resonates with you, you are warmly invited to explore the Via Sophia journey.

A small circle of women will gather for sixteen weeks to walk this Spiral Path together, discovering the wisdom that unfolds when you learn to listen more deeply to Life itself.

A few places remain in this upcoming Circle of 13. We begin March 31st. You are welcome.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

Via Sophia: Embodying the Mystical Feminine

Via Sophia has arrived.

This “Way of Wisdom” offers an invitation to step upon a Living Spiral Path and discover a new understanding of what it means to embody the Mystical Feminine.

For the past fifteen years I have lived and taught within the Mystical Feminine. I have sat within many circles and immersions with women as we explored how to practically and powerfully engage Feminine wisdom in everyday life.

Listening deeply to the voices of women walking this path, I noticed something important.

As women partnered with the Mystical Mothers as loving resources, they discovered kinder ways of living. Trust in Life increased. Trust in the Mothers deepened. And trust in their own inner capacity began to grow.

Yet even with these beautiful discoveries, I continued to see something else.

Women still struggled with self improvement, the pressure to elevate their spiritual approach, and the endless effort of managing complex lives. Greater peace and compassion were present, yet effort, discouragement, and self judgment often remained.

You’re aware that modern culture trains us women to be productive, accomplished, and constantly giving to others, often at our own expense.

Many of us quietly carry fatigue, fragmentation, and a subtle erosion of trust in ourselves. It becomes difficult to recognize the natural rhythm of your life when societal expectations are loud and certainty about success is constantly proclaimed.

And then Via Sophia arrived.

Not as a dramatic revelation, but as a quiet whisper pointing toward something deeper beneath cultural conditioning, spiritual expectations, and the constant narration of a busy mind.

I listened closely because I sensed there was more to the path of the Mystical Feminine than I had yet recognized.

What emerged was an ancient orientation toward life that is relational, cyclical, embodied, creative, and inseparable from the natural world. Via Sophia honors rhythm over urgency. Integration over reaction. Depth over display.

As I explored this Way of Wisdom, I discovered that the less I tried to manage my life, the more Life revealed itself.

Far from becoming passive, I learned how to participate directly with the natural rhythm moving through the phases of my own life.

Something changed within my work as well.

As women gathered and slowly relaxed together, nervous systems settled and perception naturally expanded. Within that quiet coherent field, clarity returned. Self trust strengthened. Capacity widened. With less effort, women began to align gently and steadily with what was most important.

When striving softens, you begin to recognize the deeper rhythm already moving through your life.

Via Sophia: Embodying the Mystical Feminine was born from this lived recognition.

The Via Sophia 16 Week Immersion offers an intimate Circle of thirteen women a path of discovery about what embodying the Mystical Feminine actually means.

It is not about transforming yourself or rising above your life. It is about inhabiting it more fully in a practical and very human way.

You will explore direct relationship with the intelligence that animates life while remaining rooted in the ordinary.

Along the way you will meet thirteen Mystical Mothers, each illuminating a distinct quality of embodied wisdom. Through guided temple journeys, experiential practices, and shared reflection, you will begin to recognize what has always been quietly alive within you.

Via Sophia unfolds as a Living Spiral. A path of return, deepening, refinement, and integration.

Each encounter with the Feminine Creation Cycle, the Field of Feminine Intelligence, and the Mystical Mothers becomes less about transformation and more about inhabitation. You begin to recognize how compassion, courage, humor, sovereignty, devotion, and beauty naturally arise within ordinary life.

If something in you recognizes this invitation, I invite you to explore the Via Sophia 16 Week Immersion.

You may read the full details on the Via Sophia Immersion page.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

I Got My Wings

I got my wings today.

No bell chimed. No angelic harmony resounded. They were just handed to me.

An official metal pin from a national airline declared me “flight crew.” I flashed back to childhood when flying on TWA.

I recalled the thrill as my brother and I met the pilot in the cockpit and received our wings to wear during the flight.

This plastic trinket added a level of delight as we flew the friendly skies toward our next adventure. You can tell that story happened a long, long time ago as no one is getting in the cockpit these days.

As she handed me my wings, she said “You changed my life.”

Another story was pulled from the past as this lovely woman recounted an Angelic Healing Journey she had with me many years before. At that time, she was in a pickle. A serious one. The empowering words and images offered during that Angelic conversation revealed a fence on which she was sitting, and her power to move in one direction (up) or another (down). It offered her hope and a choice.

Apparently, as she reminded me, the Angels suggested the friendly skies were a part of that deal – strange as that was at the time.

It’s not my story to tell here.

I will mention that it involved tremendous courage, hardship, and adventure (not all of it soaring nor fun).

It isn’t every day that you learn the impact of something you offered to someone 10 years prior.

To be clear, I mean offered as the transmitter of the Angels’ messages embedded with their tremendous wisdom, love, compassion, and wit. Holding that pin, we spoke of her decision to follow the invitation to fly through her challenges to discover what was on the other side.

Years of hard work led to doors opening and life changing in ways that continue to amaze her.

Life showed her that there was more in store for her when she dared to get off that damn fence. How making one choice and taking small actions led to the next choice, the next actions, and the next open door.

We spoke about personal responsibility and the commitment to dare to live a life she dreamed about.

I witnessed someone who had given up her story of unworthiness and was deep in the process of claiming her preciousness.

We kept the conversation going.

Exploring how to keep expanding and prepare for the inevitable tough times life was sure to deliver. The adventure of living offers ongoing opportunities for transformation.

As any traveller knows, excitement and trepidation may accompany you on the journey.

Facing the next challenge, you have the option to back away, sit on the fence, or step on the path. All approaches are understandable, yet one choice ultimately allows you to fly more freely toward your destiny.

Did I mention that she became a flight attendant much to her surprise?
Those Angels, they know stuff.

Wings in hand, now part of the “flight crew,” I was reminded to seek the open skies in my life. To have the courage to look deeply within when challenged so I might understand the gift life is presenting. Then make that choice, take that action, and walk through that opening door.

I hope you know that new horizons exist beyond your current vision.

And that you have plenty of Angelic helpers to guide your steps along the unique path you are walking. Trusting that each step awakens greater courage and offers the excitement of the next new discovery awaiting you.

Claim your wings. You don’t need the pin to soar higher. After all, the sky’s the limit.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

Living with Shamans. A Lesson in Love

My husband and I drove separately to the Philadelphia airport in the pouring rain to pick up our guests from Peru.

Not knowing what to expect, I felt an open anticipation. A few conversations had led to this moment. It struck me that these men were traveling far from home to meet a woman they didn’t know, live in an unfamiliar home, and spend an immersive week in service. I considered how much trust they had in Spirit and commitment to the path of the paqo (shaman) to say ‘yes’ to this call to Seed the Light in New Jersey. To show up within the unknown and share their wisdom, love, and healing energy.

I recognized this familiar ‘yes.’ It had led me to this highway and with that awareness, all that was unsettled within me washed away.

In that moment, I knew I’d spend the week being instructed how to live in beauty, trust, and love.

We met these beautiful, tired men with warmth and received the same. Connected, yet strangers, we gathered luggage and headed home. As Pascual played the flute in the backseat, we drove slowly through the torrential downpour. The rain offering cleansing for the Philadelphia area as the healing of the Earth, Pachamama, and all Her creatures began.

Once settled, we called our friends to lunch. They showed up with gifts.

This is the way of living in Ayni (eye-knee), the Peruvian cultural and spiritual practice of living in right relationship with Pachamama and each other. In gratitude for our caretaking, we were wrapped with bracelets and draped in shawls made by their families. Giving and receiving. Receiving and giving. After lunch, Chino did the dishes while others played flutes and rattled, cleaning and blessing the space.

Centered in our intent to care for the paqos, my husband and I consciously opened to make space to receive every blessing and gift offered.

As the days unfolded, we entered a joyful rhythm of relaxed friendship, laughter, give and take, shared meals, and quiet time on the deck. Eager to work, the paqos headed to Soul Sanctuary or our Weekend Gathering with enthusiasm. After long days and nights, they laughed and joked in the backseat on the way home. Their camaraderie and genuine enjoyment of their time together was obvious.

When I showed Francisco my “magic closet” filled with overflowing bookshelves, binders housing my creations, and mini altars, he offered to bless it.

Returning with his bells, he blessed my closet and all the wisdom within. He blessed the altars in my office. I was ready to offer my gratitude, but he quickly moved on. Generously blessing the plants and crystals in the bathroom, cleaning the energy within our clothes closet, and moving on to the bedroom and altars within. I trailed Francisco as he blessed our space and then looked to me with a question, “okay?” Okay indeed, papa, as we shared a hug.

Morning, evening, and throughout the day, I felt the delight of every greeting. I witnessed how the paqos greeted us and each other in genuine friendship and loving attention.

How different this was from the rote greeting often observed in daily living. That ‘how are you?’ without much attention to the answer.

With every meeting, something lit up in the face as the handshake or hug was offered

I felt the underlying message. ‘I see you. I welcome you. I enjoy you. I respect you.’

This wasn’t only offered to people.

It was apparent in how the paqos greeted each day with reverence , enjoyed the busy birds in the backyard, and felt nourished by the greenery of the neighborhoods. Pascual and I walked along my gardens and down the street to the pond. Curious about what was naturally growing and if fish were present, he greeted the plants and the waters with “Munay Sunqo!”

This “love from my heart” greeting was often heard and sent off in all directions to all aspects of nature, including the beautiful participants in the Gathering.

As the days unfolded, in the midst of a busy schedule with many moving parts, I became still inside.

I began receiving lessons directly from the wisdom of Life Itself. The kind of teaching that quietly states, “This is how you live. This is how you love, relate, work, play, and grow.” I felt generosity move through my being in a constant flow with so many different forms of expression. Laughter bubbled up frequently without cause and tenderness claimed my heart as its home.

Witnessing the preciousness of each participant as they received a blessing or initiation threatened to dissolve me.

My eyes soft, my inbreath deep, I felt Life Itself delight in the scene before me. Like a proud Mama watching Her children enter an exchange with such sweetness and open hearts. Pachamama breathed deeply and exhaled long and slow Her acknowledgment that healing was happening and magic was returning to the world.

Something profound was seeded during these interactions, welcomed in the belly with the promise of nourishment, safety, and love.

The Seeding the Light Gathering, every part and each location, offered an alchemical crucible for a shifting of such magnitude that I was surprised the weather remained calm. The subtle movement of thunder and lightning was present in the invisible power of every ceremony, yet poured into each person like a gentle mist.

At some point, I became conscious that the desire to serve inhabited my whole being.

It was easy. No thought required, no idea of how or why, just an abiding love that wished to move in service to Life. No instruction, preparation, or even intent was required in this natural tendency.

Just the awareness that Life serves Life in all of its myriad forms. And that strangers becoming family is the natural order of things.

When the Gathering was complete, we rested, enjoyed some shopping and a taste of Philly cheesesteaks. Arriving at the airport, I moved to retrieve their bags from the hatchback. I was stopped as Francisco and Pascual adorned me with bracelets and a headband. I don’t know why I was still surprised at their grateful exchange for the ride to the airport. Receiving graciously, giving generously. Ayni in constant practice is the way for those in tune with the overflowing abundance of life.

Arriving home, my husband and I compared notes. 8 days of living in love and we were shifted.

There was no end to the gratitude we shared. With a full heart, a tired body, and many seeds of light, I settled onto my back deck. I thought to offer Munay Sunqo and Muchas Gracias to Pachamama, the beneficence of Life, our beautiful teachers, and every participant who called forth this shared experience.

Since no words were needed, Life rested as I promptly took a nap.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

The K’intu. An Andean Blessing.

As I climbed the hills in the Sacred Valley, every step was a prayer of gratitude.

Pausing often to catch my breath in the high altitude, I drank in the beauty of the mountains, valleys, small towns, and roaming llamas. I felt the hum of power of the Sacred Site moving up from the Earth to bless my body and offer me nurturance and strength. While I saw and heard my fellow journeyers, I was immersed within my own experience of quiet wonder as I prepared for the ceremony above.

I arrived to find the Paqos (shamans) had prepared the space and had laid the first layers of the Despacho.

This offering (meaning dispatch in Spanish) is a traditional offering of the shamans in the Andes. It is a sweet gift of sugar, spices, nuts, seeds, candies, flowers, and other items representing the cosmic journey we share with all living beings. Laid upon paper, it will be wrapped and used to cleanse the energy of all participants before being offered to the fire.

As we settled in a circle, the shamans gave a k’intu to each participant.

“Anay” (thank you). I dropped within for a moment to explore what prayers wanted to be blown into this small offering. With intent, breath, and quiet voice, I offered my prayers in the tradition of the Andes. I first called upon the lineages, celestial bodies, and archetypal powers to be present. I then recognized my humanness which included all that I did not know and the mistakes I inadvertently made. I moved on to offer my gratitude for life and all things within this experience. Lastly, I shared my personal prayers for the wellbeing and harmony for myself, my family and friends, all those I serve, and all projects I was called to offer. I offered my prayers for all people, creatures, and Pachamama.

The k’intu is a fan of three cocoa leaves with a red and white carnation petal.

The k’intu may serve as a Despacho, of which there are many varieties, as an offering of thanksgiving and reverence to Pachamama (Mother Earth), the mountains and sacred spaces, and the celestial beings that watch over Earth. It may also, as in this case, be placed in a larger Despacho which gathers the prayers of many.

The three leaves of the k’intu represent the three worlds and the three Divine attributes of human equilibrium.

In the Andean cosmovision, there are three worlds or realms known as the upper world (hanaqpacha), middle world (kaypacha), and lower world (ukhupacha). These mythical realms each serve a purpose, have guardians to guide your journeys, and offer support to the human experience.

In the Peruvian tradition, there are also three energetic centers (belly, heart, head) which empower living in connection and right relationship with all life.

Each center represents and fuels one of the three Divine attributes of human equilibrium. The belly, or llank’ay (yank eye), represents creative expression, work and loving service. The heart, or munay (moon eye), represents pure loving and being in right relationship. The third eye, head, or yachay (yach eye), represents wisdom, clear knowing, and clear sight.

When it was time, I went to the shaman and offered my k’intu, vibrating with the power of my prayers.

Using this trio of cocoa leaves, she blessed my three centers before offering it to the shaman who was creating the Despacho. My prayers, along with all who participated, entered this sweet gift to life. I sat in the fresh air, hot sun, amidst the ancient ones residing in the mountains, and felt my body vibrating with this blessing.

I prayed to live this blessing in the moments of my life. And to be reminded of this ceremony and place of power when I fell into the slumber of my conditioned human self.

I believe in the practicality of translating this tradition of the Andean ceremony into the everyday journey of living. I see this as a practice which has no end and no score card. Just the simple desire to evolve into a kinder, more peaceful human being who offers something beneficial to the world. The key word here being practice.

To practice munay, you have to open and clear your heart. To practice yachay, you have to let go of judgments, opinions, and the idea that accumulated information equals knowledge. To practice llank’ay, you have to act and express your creative work imbued with loving service.

Sitting in ceremony offers you the opportunity to receive your k'intu, receive the blessings of your centers, and contribute to the Despacho.

If you are able to travel to New Jersey at the end of July, you’ll have this direct experience with the Peruvian shamans during the Seeding the Light Gathering.

This primoridal light, known as Ti in the Peruvian tradition, may be known by other names as well. It is the chi, ki, prana, holy spirit, and pure light of the Divine. That which animates all life and connects all living energy.

You may think of all ceremony, shamanic healing, and the Munay Ki initiations as a sharing of this light.

The light is information. It is energy. And the Ti informs your energetic system so it may uplevel in vibration as it clears the old, dense energy from your system. All activities in the Seeding the Light Gathering are offering you this energy transmission so your LightBody may upgrade. This empowers your intent to practice wisdom, love, and creative expression in your own life.

You are an expression of this pure Ti and have your own way of sharing your wisdom, love, and creative work with the world.

While the Peruvian shamans and ceremonies will enhance your capacity to do this, there are many ways in which you may grow your light. Clearing out the dense or stagnant energy from your field is an essential health and growth process. However this is done, it benefits the free flowing of life force (chi, prana, Ti) so that your innate wisdom may expand your capacity to live and serve with wisdom, love, and creative work.

50% of tickets for the Seeding the Light Gathering have been sold. If you are interested, please book your Weekend or 5 day Immersion now.

When you register, you’ll also be given the opportunity to have a private healing session with one of the shamans. This is a chance to experience the traditional healing methods which clearing your field of old energy and receiving an infusion of the high light.

I’ve also experienced the power of ceremony and healings on ZOOM. Seems funny, yet the Sacred healing practices know how to use every technology.

If you are unable to make the Seeding the Light Gathering, yet would like to experience a Despacho ceremony, Munay Ki initiation, or Andean Energy Medicine healing session, I’d be happy to offer this for you. Please visit my Andean Energy Medicine page or reach out to me if you’d like to bring a group to Soul Sanctuary in the future. I have limited availability in mid August and then am booking in mid October.

Please know that when I blow my prayers into my k’intu during ceremony in the Seeding the Light Gathering, I’ll be including you.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.

Love. Appreciation. Wonder.

Love

This is the energy back behind all form. You. Your family and friends. Loved ones who sing with the Angels. Santa. And every gift, holiday light, and tension you experience. It’s your nature.

Let your Love glow.

Love freely even when with people or in situations that make you crazy. We’re all crazy. Love the crazy. Whatever you’re doing, sprinkle it with love. If it’s your nature, it’s a natural impulse. Seek it and share it.

Appreciation

My heart broke open this morning. Appreciating the fullness of life I was experiencing. The sweetness and the profound sorrow. The connections and the desire to reconnect. The hustle bustle and the stillness. It’s all in there. Life amazes me and I dissolve in appreciation, as long as I’m moving slowly enough to notice.

Pay attention. Appreciation wants to express through you.

It’s your nature. Be generous with yourself throughout the holiday. Appreciate where you’re at and show up as the real you. Doesn’t matter if your cookies taste good, you’re hungover, or just too damn cheery for most people in the room.

You be you.

Let your appreciation for others spill out into every interaction.

They really need this simple act of being noticed and thanked.

It’s a basic human need. Something we can all relate to. Plus, it just feels good. Kinda like drinking warm cocoa.I bet it isn’t too hard to find tiny and big ways you appreciate another person. Or a situation. Or even a really big problem.

Appreciation invites freedom to the holiday table.

And freedom is a much better dinner guest than tension or judgement.

Wonder.

As a question. I wonder what marvelous thing or event will appear at our holiday celebration?

As a feeling. It’s often a whole body experience with a sense that life has delivered something to your door that was way beyond your expectation. It could be momentary or sustained wonder. Either way, it feels great. Every cell agrees.

The magic of Santa. The new baby at the holiday table. The unexpected opening of hearts.

Wonder at the stories in all sacred traditions. Of a light that guided the way to joy, peace, and sweet happiness with one another. On this Winter Solstice, I invite you to remember the Light within all beings and all of the natural world.

Seek and ye shall find.

What you seek matters. For all of us.

I’m wishing you joy, peace, and love as you celebrate the sacred moments within this Season of Light.

Thanks for being a part of this lovely community whether it’s receiving this Blog or showing up at Soul Sanctuary. I’m glad you’re around. You make my life richer with your Presence.

Happy holidays.

Peace be with you and with all.  No exceptions.
