Building Cathedrals

How’s your perspective these days? 



Especially in the midst of upheaval in this country, famine and war in the world, and an unbelievable swing toward hatred, greed, and cruel behavior. That is before you consider your everyday stress or the big challenges your and your loved ones may be facing.

When stress rises, perspective shrinks. 

It’s the brain’s natural response to survival signals.

You hyper focus on essentials like food, funds, work, and family (unless you’re ready to toss your family out the window, but that’s another story. Hang in.)

This contraction is understandable. Yet, the invitation is to remember to take a breath, soothe your system, and connect to the wisdom within and beyond you.

When your system is disorganized, harmony is unavailable. 

The Soul’s vision becomes cloudy. So the first move, always, is to harmonize. To come into coherence. Then you can see more, know more, and be more. This matters, not only for you, but for all of us in this interconnected family.

From this Soulful perspective, beautiful questions arise:

What am I learning? 

How may I grow, mature, evolve during this challenge?

What might I offer others without compromising my own wellbeing?

What is asking to be healed within me so I can transcend the smaller story of my life?

That last question – it’s a big one. In the midst of this turmoil, your patterns are likely activating.

Perhaps you may view your vulnerability as your Inner Healer trying to catch your attention. Once you’ve soothed the stress response, you’re more likely to become curious.

More Beautiful Questions arise:


What belief or pattern is creating this tension?

Do I want to carry it or is it ready to be released?

Am I carrying burdens that aren’t even mine? 

Am I still listening to that societal voice that tells me I have to hustle and achieve to be worthy (such a silly idea, but we’ve all been snookered)?

This moment is potent and rich with possibility.

So, do the work with yourself, a friend, a mentor, or a celestial ally.

You may be just fine right now as you read these words with a full belly, safe house, cell phone, and a few dollars in the bank. But, don’t miss this energetically charged moment because there’s something deeper waiting to be freed — something beautiful.

Recently I recalled receiving a strong perspective jolt (mini lightning strike) during the pandemic. (Remember that crisis and how we weathered it together?)

I had come across a youtube video of Andrea Bocelli’s Concert of Hope. In the isolation of quarantine, he stood before the massive Duomo Cathedral in Milan. 



Singing. Alone. To the world.

His voice carried across silence, through distance, across grief and hope. His open heart awakened hearts across the globe. Tears. Prayer. Awe. Beauty. Google it and you’ll see the image. 



Tiny human. Massive Cathedral.

Humans have built cathedrals to the Divine for millennia. Imagine it: a Soul envisions a Sacred monument. Artists, funders, and masons gather. Grandfathers, sons, grandsons labor generation after generation to honor something greater than themselves.

A cathedral was sparked by a simple person who was moved by a Divine impulse.

Infused with imagination and devotion, they gathered others to build something magnificent for others to inherit.

It humbles me every time every time I see a cathedral. A sense of majesty that unfurls when you widen your view.

When you open your heart to the mythic operating within the mundane. When you honor your vulnerability and your magnificence. Both together as one Sacred human journey.

When you let your Soul move you, everything changes.

Andrea Bocelli, a tiny human with a huge voice, offered hope his way. This is what generous beauty does. It wakes you up and returns your focus to what matters. It’s a good time to wake up to what deeply matters and ask the beautiful questions that lead you to offer your song to the world.

By the time you’re reading this, I’ve flown into Milan and traveled to the Temples of Humankind in Damanhur, Italy.

Here, I’m committed to listening to both my Soul and my stress. 



I’m going to walk amongst the builders of another epic cathedral buried deep within a mountain. Over 45 years ago, one idea sparked 70 people in the Damanhur community to create the inexplicable and make the impossible possible. I’ve walked in the Temples of Humankind which are dedicated to awakening the Divinity in all people and honoring every wisdom tradition. It’s extraordinary and inspiring. 



I’m grateful to bring the Q’ero shamans from Peru to Damanhur so they may add their magic, ceremony, vision, and love to the Temples, Crystal Labyrinth Project, and Damanhurian community.

I’ll walk in silence upon and within that place of power so that I may listen and perceive the mythic story that wants to birth through me.

Today, on the anniversary of 9/11, I’m committed to building cathedrals, not walls. I hope you join me in that idea, however you do it.

And a reminder. Breathe and soothe your system when life gets inexplicable and overwhelming.

Support the Crystal Labyrinth Project

As you celebrated the Summer Solstice and the New Moon this past week, our beloved shamans who are South of the Equator were celebrating the Winter Solstice in Cusco, Peru.

Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun, takes place on June 24th to commemorate the beginning of the Inca New Year and the Winter Solstice. Originating in the 15th century by Emperor Pachakuti, Inti Raymi was created as major Inca festival to honor the sun god Inti.

Today, the festival honors Inca heritage with traditional costumes, ceremonies, dances, and vibrant music.

Large celebrations embody Peru’s cultural identity in a bridge from past to present time. The primary celebrations for Peruvians and visitors take place in Cusco’s Plaza de Armas, Coricancha (Temple of the Sun), and the Sacsayhuaman Fortress (Lightning Temple).

I’ve sat in Cusco’s main square, wandered through the Coricancha, and communed with the massive, mysterious stones at Sacsayhuaman.

It adds a layer of special appreciation to the celebration of the Northern Summer Solstice knowing my brothers and sisters to the South are dancing in ceremony. 

I received beautiful photos and videos from Pascual which shared a gathering of shamans high in the mountains. Blue tents, dusted with snow, scattered about the stark mountain side. The young men dancing in ceremony adorned with the symbols of the Inca and the medicine gifts they carry.

Every month I receive photos or videos of ceremony high in the Peruvian mountains. Pascual, his wife Santusa, his son, and others who climb to the rarified air to honor Pachamama and pray with the Apus (mountain spirits) and etheric lineages. They pray for harmony for the Earth, for humanity, and for all creatures great and small.

They pray for you as they consider the extended family of Soul Sanctuary and the beautiful people who gathered last summer with them for the Seeding of the Light Gathering. 



Pascual and Santusa with their translator, Jose Tomas, are traveling to Damanhur with a group in September to participate in the Crystal Labyrinth Project.

Damanhur’s Crystal Labyrinth radiates harmony and wisdom deposited by indigenous medicine people from around the world.

When asked to travel to Damanhur and the Temples of Humankind to participate in the Crystal Labyrinth Project, the shamans were guided to make the journey.

To explore the power of the mountain, and the Temples hidden within, where four synchronic lines intersect. They’ll engage in ceremony for the benefit of Pachamama and humanity in the foothills of the Italian Alps, waterfalls, and sacred land of Damanhur.

Pascual and Santusa will download the balanced masculine and feminine wisdom garnered from living the Q’ero tradition of the medicine person.

Damanhur was created to dream a new timeline and way of being for the planet. A way of harmony, sustainable stewardship, and respectful relationships with all beings. Now is a time to join and anchor this dream of harmony across the globe as destructive policies, behavior, and rhetoric fill the airwaves.

You can join in support of the Crystal Labyrinth Project which radiates harmony, love, and wisdom throughout the world.

It takes a village to fund the shamans journey to Damanhur and together we’ve identified a way for you and your family to be remembered in ceremony with the shamans.

An Ayni Despacho and fire ceremony will be held in the high mountains of Peru in August and in the Italian foothills in September. During each ceremony, all who have contributed to the shamans’ journey will be remembered. Photos of the ceremonies will be shared with all who have contributed to this group project.

“Superman memory crystals” are the size of a coin and can store up to 360 terabytes of data. This advanced technique consist of nanoscale dots embedded by a laser in layers of quarts. This data is encoded in 5 dimension including 3D placement, orientation, and size. Texts such as the Bible, stored in a quarter size crystal, are found to be stable up to 1000 degrees Celsius. Theoretically, that information can last for 14 billion years at room temperature. Science hasn’t (yet) proven that intent can transfer wisdom into a crystal, I imagine Damanhur’s Crystal Spiral Labyrinth is the perfect experiment to radiate indigenous wisdom throughout the cosmos.

How to Keep your Heart Open

These past months have been filled with confusion, anger, and fear for many in this country.

Witnessing deportations without due process, assaults on the courts and universities, flip flopping tariffs, and military action have shaken the foundational sense of safety and justice for many Americans.

I’ve been listening to you and engaging in many conversations about how to live in balance during these times.

When the world seems hostile, disrespectful, and unsafe, it’s a really good time is to explore how to navigate with sturdiness, skill, and soul. 

Soul first.

What’s the highest ideal that guides you? Perhaps love, compassion, generosity, or kind understanding? Whatever has guided you thus far is important in this moment of history. The challenge is how you apply that ideal in a practical manner through your energy, thoughts, words, and deeds.

When you’re hair’s on fire or you’re shaking under the covers, it might be a challenge to view people or situations who trigger you with compassion. That’s understandable. 

So body next.

Remember how important it is to breathe. Deep, slow breaths. Long exhales to calm the nervous system. Square breathing. However you choose to practice breathing will be helpful.

Soothing your nervous system with the power of HeartBreathing brings you into greater organization. This means you’ve got full access to the wisdom of your brains (gut, heart, head). Allowing you to return to a centered, calm state to determine how to proceed. This supports emotional regulation so you can tolerate what you’re facing. Where’s your mind focusing?

If you’re reactive to the many media news streams (including your inner dialogue or friend’s opinion), it’s easy to get distracted and dysregulated. Frustration and fear love a reactive mind. So does the opposition or whomever you’re getting all riled up with.  

When your mind-body is organized, it’s easier to choose your focus. The intent to do your best as you move through the day with an open heart and strong self care supports your potential to bring compassion, generosity, or love to your interactions. 

Connection. Communication. CommUnity.

Look to those who bring comfort and feel sturdy to you. Connect with others who can engage in conversations that explore without demonizing. Support one another with care and consideration as you process your feelings or concerns. 

If you’re in a family, friend group, or work space where folks think very differently than you or are reactive, it might not be the best place to explore your differences. However, when you’re able to have an honest conversation with those who view situations differently than you, seek to understand them.

Bridging divides in perception, opinion, or lifestyle requires openness and a true desire to put yourself in another’s place. 

Do your best to become peaceful in your mind, body, and emotions. So your interactions throughout the day broadcast peace. Explore where acceptance, understanding, generosity, and forgiveness may be responses that support, empower, and heal. What you choose to share in today’s unrest really matters in everyday interactions. Don’t underestimate the impact of small ripples. Just make a lot of the positive kind all day long.

As the country becomes polarized, seek to keep your mind and heart open.

How do you keep your heart open in hell?

Here’s some advice from a wise man in tune and in balance with feminine wisdom.

I receive succor in this higher understanding of how to be in a world that holds so much pain, destruction, and beauty. 

This may help you explore how to live in the world and keep your heart open. To choose to be spiritually focused without losing touch with your humanity. Herein lies guidance for action that is balanced, coming from a perspective that there is harmony to the implicate and explicate order of the universe. And your experience within it. 

I discovered the wisdom of Ram Dass after he passed. 

I’ve learned a lot from the documentaries about his life and his talks. He offers a richness packed into a few minutes or hours that often left me more willing to live in this beautiful, horrible world with a heart that stays open.

Plus, I like how he talks like a calm, happy hippie. Words like “far out, cool, and groovy” bring me back to my high school days.

Ram Dass taught about courage, how to sit with pain and grief, encouraging an experience of hope within despair, and offered an invitation to face death consciously. He demonstrated what a heart wide open looks like in a person who is clearly human. 

Imagine a country filled with hearts that want to stay open. 

No matter what side of any situation you find yourself on, I wonder if you could begin with calming your body and opening your heart and mind. Every choice, every ripple matters.

Ram Dass’ talk led me to a creative, cool resource: the After Skool channel on youtube. I found some of my favorite teachers there. Listening to their voices while the concepts were illustrated artfully. It’s a visual delight. The intent of this channel is to empower individuals to shift their inner world with artistic presentations of profound thinkers. The idea that the world changes when your internal world changes is not new. It IS empowering and shared by mystics, physicists, and medicine men and women. Blown Away by the Temples of Humankind

One cool Spring morning, I stepped on the treadmill at the gym looking forward to walking a few miles.

Recovering from an injury, I had to walk at a moderate pace so I had brought my copy of What Is Enlightenment? magazine to explore. This was a while back when magazines were still common (April-June issue, 2007) before everything was offered on your phone. I always found something to inspire me within this publication focused upon consciousness, culture, and cosmos.

I was intrigued by the theme of that issue: “Searching for Utopia. Exploring humanity’s timeless quest for heaven earth.”

A cover always offers a hint of what’s inside and I immediately focused upon “The Story of Damanhur: Unearthing the Secrets of a Thriving Utopian Experiment.” I figured the world could benefit from knowledge gained from a “thriving experiment.” So could I.

“Atlantis in the mountains of Italy.” Well, okay, that was not quite what I expected.

“What would you say if I told you there was a place nestled in the foothills of the Italian Alps …. where dreams are not just for children, and magic has not yet gone from the world? … A placed where men and women live together in harmony with the land and in tune with the cosmos …. It is a place washed by mysterious energies … [where] all walk the paths of a university dedicated to the quest for esoteric knowledge and the spiritual advancement of humankind…..”

“Yes,” I breathed. “I’d say yes, please.”

I then turned the page and was blown backwards off the treadmill.

The power that emanated from the two page photo spread lifted and blew my body back. I managed to hit the emergency stop button, landed on my knees on the back of the belt, and was unceremoniously deposited on the floor. Tears were running down my face, not from pain, but from recognition that something truly important was before me.

People ran to help me. Lifting me with concern and asking if I was hurt.

Still vibrating with this power, I felt their concern like hope for the future. Where people lived in harmony and cared deeply for one another’s wellbeing. I felt wrapped in power, love, and care. I was able to say a few words to reassure them I was good and thank them.

There was no self consciousness nor any need to explain that my Soul had just received an invitation of enormous magnitude.

That it was crystal clear and fully received even though I had no idea what that invitation actually was.

My knees hurt a bit and my back was tender from the jolting, but more than anything I wanted to enter the path laid before me.

So, I wiped my tears, blew my nose, and stepped back on that treadmill into the mystery before me.

By the time I was done reading that article (twice), I knew I was journeying to The Temples of Humankind in Damanhur, Italy.

I spent 8 days in Damanhur. I immersed myself in their philosophy, was activated by the Temples, walked the power circuits, created art, engaged with the mystical harmonious people who lived there, and slept one night in the Temples.

In Damanhur, I discovered those mysterious energies, ingenious beauty, incredible power, direct access to the cosmos, synchronistic magic, and pervading harmony. And it changed me.

Not the kind of inspiring upliftment that comes from a spiritual retreat or holiday in a foreign culture.

I experienced an alchemical transformation that I can now, many years later, track its synchronistic influence and my personal initiatory process.

I could speak for hours about Damanhur, yet after all my preparatory research and an immersive 8 days, I came home knowing very little. I just knew that I had begun (again) that “quest” for esoteric knowledge on the spiral path of spiritual evolution. I turned 50 that summer and entered a decade of deep exploration, excavation, and elevation.

I’m still unpacking all that was given to me those many years ago.

I’ve waited 15 years to return to Damanhur with a group of spiritual seekers who feel a powerful call of their Soul to awaken ancient knowledge, upgrade the LightBody, and directly engage the cosmic healing energy.

The time is now. The way opened for my in my recent visit to Damanhur.

Sitting within the Sacred Woods above the Temples, I received the request to gather a group of serious seekers who were ready to immerse themselves in the magic, power, beauty, harmony, and potential of Damanhur and the Temples of Humankind.

To supercharge their own evolution, activate little know energy structures within their field, communicate directly with the Temples and cosmos, and be seeded with a light so powerful it will take years to unpack the transformation. So that they may return home, plant themselves in their neck of the woods, and offer their unique Soul gifts to a world on fire.

Sounds like a big promise. I know. And a big purpose. I know. I’ve lived it. Twice now.

Those who have explored myth, individual reports, and scientific measurements suggest there is an combination of influences from human intent (devotional interactions), the Earth field, celestial bodies, and the structures built at the sacred site.

Awaken Your Inner Healer with the Emotion Code

Stress is a natural experience in life. It’s often viewed as a doorway to disruption of wellbeing, peace of mind, and a clear navigational path in a challenging situation.

I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. Working as a psychologist with thousands of people over the past 40 years, I’ve learned that the relationship with stress is complex. What seems supremely stressful to one person may be a walk in the park for another.

Some folks court stress as a way of life, while others seek to minimize its influence.

So much of how you relate to life’s stressors depends upon what you’ve experienced, what skills you’ve been taught, what strengths or vulnerabilities were modeled, what help was withheld from you, how you’ve sought to learn from challenge, what strategies you’ve developed, your natural temperament, and how resilient you are in the face of tumult. There’s more to it, but you get the gist.

Some folks view stress simply as that which elicits the fight or flight response. Sure, it may do that, but there is more to it than that. (Read my Self Soothe Strategy Playbook for more on that topic).

Living in the current state of the world is challenging everyone these days.

I’m sure you can easily tell me the top 3 stressors of your current reality.

Take a moment and make that list. What are the top three stressors of your life at this time? 1-2-3.

Being human requires a flexible array of skills so you can navigate life with sturdiness. As I witness what’s happening in the United States and tracking what is happening around the world, I see, feel, and hear the rising tension. Like an unseasonably high tide, it is threatening to drown some while leaving others afloat in an uncertain sea.

So now is an excellent time to master skills which will help you navigate whatever uncertainty you and those around you are experiencing. I know a lot of skills that are useful and want to simplify things, so let’s start with one focus.

I’m really interested in helping you rapidly lower tension in your body, mind, emotions, and energy field.

The less tension you store, the freer you are to think, act, relate, and navigate in harmony. No matter the storm.

I use a lot of Energy Psychology techniques and modalities in my healing practice and daily life. I’m extremely interested in ways to translate more complex clinical practice into easy to use, self treatment techniques. So you can “treat” the rising tension efficiently and effectively as soon as it is noticed in every day life.

Given that the world is changing and collective stress is increasing with no resolution in site, I believe you need to become even more skilled at managing tension than you are right now.

That’s saying something as I’m sure you have skills a plenty, yet these are indeed challenging times.

I also believe you have an intelligent, integrated body-mind-emotion-energy system which, when working effectively, can support self-healing. You’re already primed for self-healing.

The Emotion Code is an Energy Psychology modality created by Bradley Nelson, DC.

It’s well known by many and is intended to rapidly clear the energy that is interfering with the flow of your vital life force. Why is that so important? Your vital life force, and how it flows through your physical-mental-emotional system, is integral to your health and wellbeing at all levels.

Next I’m offering Self-Healing with The Emotion Code as a two week mentoring group on ZOOM, May 6th and 13th, 7 – 9:30pm ET.

I’ll be covering a lot of ground in a simple and practical way so that you can use The Emotion Code for yourself, with family members, and your pets. Here’s the deal. It is a mentoring group, not a practitioner training. It requires you purchase The Emotion Code book or audio book from your favorite bookseller. Bradley Nelson wrote this book to teach you how to use The Emotion Code for yourself and your family. I’ll be reviewing some basic aspects of the book and the process so that you understand the theory and rationale behind The Emotion Code (and Energy Psychology). You’ll get some practice with muscle testing, identify how to run a self-treatment session, and get some practice.

You’ll have a week to explore this for yourself and come back with more practice and an opportunity to clarify your questions.

After the two weeks (or three if you join the Virtual Salon), you can dive more deeply into the book and practice sessions with yourself. Once confident, you’ll share this with family members who are interested. I’m adding in a bit about treating pets and you’ll know why when we meet. Remember, this isn’t a practitioner training so you aren’t offering this professionally to any one. The Greater Good Science Center at Cal Berkley has been exploring how to bridge differences since 2018. They ask some valuable questions. “Does “bridging differences” mean that we paper over social injustice in pursuit of social harmony? Does it require us to sacrifice our ideals in order to always find common ground with others? Or to accommodate views or behavior that we find abhorrent?” They have discovered a lot in all these years. Go explore.

Blooming Onion. Blossoming Gratitude.

I’m finally completing my holiday thank you notes. Just two left. First off, thanks to everyone who donated toys, gifts, and moolah to the SisterHood Gift drive!

Turns out, with the exception of 20 teens, it was all us. It was a funny year. The highlight is that 275 kids received a bunch of new toys, gifts, and clothes on Christmas morning. Thanks to all of you who gave from your heart. You’re anonymous and so am I as those toys were compliments of the man in red or their parents. I don’t know the details of how each family managed their gift bags as it’s not my business. Those parents can make their own parenting decisions for their kids. Especially on Christmas morning. 

Once again, I remembered a few things during this holiday gift drive. Here are 3 lessons I seem to forget every year after all those bags of toys head out in the U-Haul Sleigh.

First, it’s totally worth it. Second, it’s a hell of a lot of work and I need more people to join in the feel good fun of donating. Third, I’m starting in July next year.

Seriously. In July. I forget every year that it is such a big project which grows as other donors drop out. So, I’m switching strategies. I’m personally shopping once a month for our family’s toy donations. That way I won’t add to my holiday shopping and spending at a time that is already full in both regards. Feel free to adopt this strategy for your own. I’ll be happy to accept your toys all year long as I’ll be building a toy store in my basement.

I’m also having a Soul Sanctuary holiday gift collection in July. Look for it if you want a little ho ho ho in the middle of summer.

Speaking of thank you notes, I owe someone a note of gratitude for their gift.

It’s just that I don’t know who my Secret Santa was this year. 

Let me back track a bit. My kid was flying in for the holidays. Great news.

She started sending packages to our house addressed to her. With a frequent reminder to put them in her closet without opening them upon arrival. No peeking. The repeated instruction wasn’t for me. I never peek. My husband, on the other hand, can be oblivious to repeated instructions.

Like the morning I found him blissfully using his new pet hair rake to clean up after Milo’s morning lay about on the carpet. 

Yeah, it’s a thing. And someone is “raking in the dough” with that idea. Go figure. Needless to say, the infraction of opening a Christmas gift early led to immediate termination as head elf. I was hired on the spot to sort through boxes arriving on our doorstep. I diligently added to her secret stash with narry a peek at what was already closeted away. 

Amidst the flurry of my daughter’s arrival, she disappeared to wrap gifts. (Yes, just as it was time to do the dishes. Some things never change). 

While we chatted in the kitchen, there arose such a clatter. “Who ordered an onion?!” 

She arrived in hysterics while showcasing a golden onion with green shoots tilting madly to one side. Okay, to be fair, I never portrayed my kid as a genius. And I’m notoriously lacking in the green thumb department. So, perhaps it was a bit of a parental failure (mine) that she mistook an amaryllis for an onion. 

In one hand she held the ‘onion’ as her boyfriend trailed behind holding a little square box addressed to moi (another elf sorting error). 

After everything calmed down and the proper apologies were made to the neglected plant, we noticed that even with mistreatment, life found a way to grow. Eventually, with a bit of space and letting it be, the stalks grew straight and flowered. In fact, there’s one flower left. Once that’s gone, I’ll watch a YouTube video to learn what to do next. But, I don’t want to get ahead of myself. 

I do want to thank whomever sent that lovely blooming onion to me. 

It filled our home with laughter and warmed our hearts knowing someone cared enough to send it our way. So, whoever you are, thank you. 

This seems like a silly story to tell in the midst of the polarization in our country, the fires in the West, and the snows in the South. Yet, I think it’s important to realize that we’re like that blooming onion flower which grows even when stuck in a tiny box. And thrives when the box is removed. 

Take care of yourself. Be kind and nurture one another. Tend to the environments in which you live, work, and share with all living creatures. Love the Mother anyway you can. Seems She really needs extra attention.

It’s a time to ask how you may help things grow rather than focus upon the distortion.

Forget the boxes you’ve put yourself and others in as everyone bends this way and that.

Be grateful for everything you have, who you are, and how you can contribute to improving life on the planet. 

Quit the mud slinging and seek support if you’re cowering in fear. Remember to begin again with a deep breath and a desire to be a good human who abides by your own highest ideals. If I may be of help, please feel free to reach out.

Visioning Surprise. Closets, Dogs, & Body Code

New Year’s Day arrived and I was snuggled by the Christmas tree for a day of visioning.

I’d booked myself a free day with my magic journal, colored pens, and LifeBook. The day began as planned. In delicious silence, I savored the beauty, comfort, and warmth all around me.

I sank into gratitude as my mind, body, energy, and emotions aligned with all that was positive and possible.

Choosing the first area of my LifeBook, Health and Fitness, I explored what was not working for me. I saw what needed a total overhaul and what required gentle tweaking. I explored the beliefs that held the old, stale behavior in place, as well as those necessary to install a better mindset and actions to support new dreams. I updated that chapter in my LifeBook and felt deeply into what was possible. It felt pretty doable.

One chapter down, many to go, when I notice my dog was having trouble moving around.

Milo gave me that sad look reserved for communicating something was wrong. His legs, weak from arthritis and a previous broken foot, weren’t working so well. It seemed widespread, this weakness, and challenging to discern a definite cause.

Leaving my creative nest, I spent time with Milo on the floor and watched him struggle to move.

The crowded vet ER on New Year’s Day sounded like a less than stellar way to begin the year. I was grateful that Milo responded well to the Body Code, an energy medicine modality, that I’d used to help him heal and stay healthy throughout his 13 years.

After his Body Code session, a treat, and a dose of doggie ibuprofen, Milo seemed more at ease.

Allowing me to return to my creative nest. The house was quiet and chapter 2 was waiting. Settling in once again, I couldn’t concentrate for the voice in my head issuing an invitation I’d been receiving for days.

“Clean your closet.”

I tuned out that unwanted message as I had planned this ritual of launching new dreams on the first day of the year. And I was determined to hold onto my scheduled creative dreaming session.

As if creative dreaming ever followed the schedule of the mind.

Listening again, I heard only one message. “Clean your closet.” I may have muttered a bit as I climbed the steps, armed with trash bags for what I knew would be a big donation pile. I spent the next 4 hours in that closet, weeding meticulously.

Simplicity was needed. Clarity was required.

Apparently, I needed a more dramatic overhaul in this category. Working at the materially level, I released all clothing that no longer fit my body or lifestyle. As the pile grew, gratitude returned as I imagined the SisterHood ladies updating their wardrobes for school and work.

I lost a lot of weight that afternoon.

Becoming lighter, I ventured into other closets. I enticed my husband to go through his clothing. I reached my daughter and sent photos of what was still in her drawers. So much was released.

I felt lighter all over. Ready for a jaunt to Mexico with my husband’s company.

Then Milo worsened. All legs weak. Big sad eyes. Worried parents.

So, we let go the trip. Cleared our schedule and sat for hours in the parking lot of the animal hospital. It was a still, comfortable time. We watched the sky and animals on the farm while Milo snored quietly.

My husband and I explored things we were ready to let go, lessons we learned during the year, and new dreams for each of us and our family.

Seems like Life planted us in the middle of a creative dreaming space together. In a way that neither of us would have planned or wanted. Yet, as it arrived and the following days unfolded, things began to shift.

The surprising openings, changed minds, new behaviors, and emerging possibilities arrived gently and with ease.

Even after putting my magic book and pens away, every area of that LifeBook was impacted. As if new software was downloaded and an instructional manual opened one step at a time.

I can’t see that book. I can’t see the next step. I’m asked again and again to surrender and trust.  

Sometimes, I do. Often, I catch myself reverting to old programming.

Yet, when I miss the cue or forge forward with plans that don’t work, I’m not as bothered as I was before I cleaned that closet. Or gave up that trip. It’s early into this newness. The creativity seems to dance in a nonlinear way through my day and I’m doing best to follow rather than lead.

Milo has had a lot of Body Code sessions. And he’s not the only one.

As it turns out, perhaps not such a coincidence, I offered a lot of Body Code sessions with clients this past week. Lots of energy medicine sessions. More Body Code, shamanic sessions, and Angelic healing sessions scheduled this month. Perhaps this cleaning out the old goes deeper than our closets.

Savoring Stillness Practice

I pulled into a crowded Target parking lot on a windy, sunny afternoon.

I’ve been doing a bunch of errands and had plenty of direct experience with busy roadways, impatient drivers, and crowded parking lots. So many people rushing to enter stores already teeming with late day shoppers.

As I searched for a spot, the space around me felt congested and the pace frenetic as I heard parents calling to children to hurry.

It was getting close to dinner and I imagined most people were rushing to complete their chores so they could head home and eat. From the looks on the faces around me, not many people were enjoying their day. As I pulled into my parking space, I actually questioned if walking into Target with so many stressed out shoppers was such a bright idea.

I decided to engage the practice of Savoring Stillness before I even exited my car.

For the next few minutes, I would have the opportunity to settle into a gross and subtle exploration of stillness while nestled in my comfortable vehicle.

I left the engine running and turned off the radio. Eyes wide open, I began to notice the contrast. I was aware of sitting in one place rather than being in motion. It was comfortable to take my feet off of the pedals and to allow my hands to rest on my lap. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and savored the stillness after so much drive time.

The stillness moved through my body and psyche. A sense of relaxation deepened as tightness in my posture that I hadn’t noticed before gently let go with each exhale.

It was in the process of dropping more deeply into relaxed stillness that I noticed movement. My body shifting, moving about in my seat, and settling in with a sigh. My breath was moving me up and then down again in a slow, wavelike action. I felt the vibration of the running vehicle and heard the idling engine. I noticed that movement was present at a more subtle level of sensation throughout my body.

With that awareness, I turned off the car and encountered a new level of stillness.

The rumbling and vibrating gone, I tuned into the quiet even more fully. The time between my inhale and out breath lengthened as I entered a still and Sacred Pause without effort.

As I witnessed the subtle sensations occurring within my physical body, I became aware of occasional rocking on a grand scale as my car was buffeted by the wind.

Shifting my attention to the wind’s effect, I recognized that my cozy chamber of stillness was actually moving in an irregular rhythm. As I tuned in, I heard the music of the wind whistling around the car, lifting a plastic bag in the air, and slamming a car door closed.

I opened my eyes and saw the wind whipping through clothing and long hair, shopping bags, and trees.

Movement was apparent everywhere as the wind danced people and the surroundings.

I noticed I felt warm, relaxed, and comfortable as I observed the chilling, disruptive effect of the wind.

My gaze swept the congested parking lot, fast moving shoppers, and a riot of colorful cars. I closed my eyes and found the depth of stillness within. Eyes open and taking in my environment, my breath arose from this still space. I was ready.

Exiting the car, I continued to Savor Stillness as I moved through the wind, dodged shopping carts, and felt my hair whip around my face.

I appreciated the contrast of warm air in the Target store and the abundance of items that afforded me such a comfortable life. I recalled other shopping trips that contrasted sharply from this experience. These memories reinforced the benefit of this simple practice that took less than 4 minutes. In the store, I breathed and wandered and shopped and observed.

I was Movement arising from Stillness.

As the music caught my attention, I felt my breath pattern change to move in time to the rhythm. It was natural as if I knew how to breathe in perfect time with the song.

Life was dancing. Target was the ballroom. And I was finally still enough to enter the fun.

The Art of Becoming 6 week Journey offers an invitation to step outside the boundaries of your life as you know it.

Forest bathing involves walking slowly, mindfully as you open the senses, notice your response, and enjoy the ecosystem. Statistics indicate that the average American spends 93 percent of the time indoors and about ten hours a day on social media. That can’t be good for your health. Forest bathing research revealed benefits such as strengthening the immune system, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, boosting overall sense of well being, and improving cardiovascular and metabolic health.

Wisdom from the Redwoods

I’m at home in the redwoods of California. My whole being knows this to be true.

Until 10 months ago, I was not aware that such a place existed for me. I knew the redwoods existed and had walked in Muir Woods as a teen with my family. Beyond that I gave no thought to those giant trees until I felt a call to walk those centuries old groves. When it evolved into a longing, I realized there was something waiting for me.

Our first adventure hiking amidst the redwoods and sequoias in the state and national parks was soul enriching.

Walking in silence through the groves was so deeply refreshing and perfect that I mourned leaving. All the way home and for days afterwards, I felt a deep loss. I had the idea that I wouldn’t return to these new found friends, or at least not for many years.

Last December my husband opened the invitation to travel. “What are we waiting for?” he asked.

I had no good answer to that question even though life was full of events, work, and people in need. When he asked where I wanted to go, my heart leapt. The redwoods beckoned and we booked our flight. It takes a lot of time to get to those trees. Flying across the country and driving 5 hours north of San Francisco. All to get to the little town of Orick, population 257, and my absolute favorite Prairie Creek State Park.

I could envision our little AirBnB. The picture windows overlooking the hummingbirds, fields of cattle, and the pacific ocean foaming as it kissed the sand.

Unexpectedly rerouted from a visit with dear friends, we found ourselves landing in Arcata for a few days. Offering the opportunity to explore Arcata Community Forest, Arcata Redwood Park, and the Arcata Bird Sanctuary along the coast. As our adventure began, I knew the routine. Relaxed mornings, a longer hike, home for lunch and perhaps a nap outside, a leisurely late afternoon hike, and a quiet evening.

I entered Arcata Community Forest as I do every forest, mountain, or body of water.

I offer gratitude to Pachamama for Her beauty and ask permission to enter. Here, I called upon the deva of the forest, that nature spirit that served the entirety of the ecosystem. And then I introduced ourselves. While that may sound silly, it’s a practice that allows for the respectful exchange of energy.

By stating our names out loud in greeting, I offered our energetic signature to nature and claimed our place within this living energy.

Walking slowly, letting my gaze travel upward, I began to speak silently with the trees. That’s another habit, sometimes silently and often aloud, I enter into conversation with the natural world.

I didn’t get very far into our little chat before I heard “Sssshhhh.”

Okay, that was unexpected and it shut me right up. I opened to listen and heard the trees tell me that my mind was too busy and my body too tense. That was true. I had been working every day, late into the night preparing for the Seeding the Light Gathering. I felt the tightness in my body from sitting at my desk, on the plane, and in the car for so many hours. In total agreement, I zipped my mental lips.

“How about you just hike.”

“Oh yes!” said every fiber of my being as my body and mind exhaled. It was as if these wise teachers offered me the ever present suggestion to “Let go and Just Be.” That day, every step, was a shedding. Without effort, while I soaked in the silent majesty, the stress that had taken up residence within my system released.

I eagerly entered a new trail on Day 2 and wondered what gifts were in store. 

As soon as that thought crossed my mind, I heard the trees whisper “Patience.”

I had to laugh. As if one day of shedding the busyness of my mind was sufficient. So, I brought my whole attention to the path. Again and again as my mind returned to planning and tasks. I realized that I could “just hike” every day and trust that the redwoods would drop their concise teaching into my lap.

Hiking through Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park on day 3, amidst a ton of tourists, I saw such beauty.

In the forests and the enjoyment of each human face turned upward. Within the streams, the sky, those trees. It touched me deeply, this beauty. Even the dust from the gravel which adorned the ferns lining the narrow road felt like a decoration.

At some point the lesson of that day formed into words.

“Nature adorns itself with beauty.”

Day 4 and I finally arrived at Prairie Creek. Deciding on a 6 mile hike, I felt downright giddy as I entered the familiar park.

No lie, it was a bit surprising to me that it felt like Christmas morning as a child. At some point that day, I heard a whisper “This is at-home-ment.” Yes, I knew that ‘being at home in the moment’ and I recognized that this place was that for me. That hike was delightful, especially as we left all the people behind.

It was just us amidst the beauty and stillness of the towering trees.

Unfortunately, we got lost on the loop. It’s a thing we do, getting lost on loops.

So, we ended up adding another few miles to our hike. My legs began to talk to me about strength and persistence, or maybe it was me talking to them. It began to blur until I heard the whisper of “Tenacity.” The fullness of that lesson unfolded in an instant. It’s a big one and, once received, I tapped into the energy of Pachamama and finished that hike happy and ready for lunch.

Day 5 brought a harder hike and the absence of trail signs.

High on the mountain, we laughed about a friend’s interest in Bigfoot sightings. I then startled at every rustle. We wondered if folks ended up sleeping in these woods when they couldn’t find their way out. I thought next time I’d bring more snacks and a whistle to call for assistance if needed. Most of the time, we didn’t speak as the silence was so intense that it seemed to have taken on material form.

“Silence and Trust.” Two lessons that day.

Eventually, many hours later, we arrived at the ranger station. Ready for that nap. Day 6 brought teachings about the experience of “Wonder.” And a reminder of “Strength” as hiking required more than my body was used to. I soon recognized, however, that my idea of my body’s ability was too limited, proven by what was accomplished without undue strain.

By Day 7, the lesson was “Ease” sprinkled with the constant reminder that “Life reveals Beauty.”

Driving south, we meandered through the Avenue of the Giants and stopped for one more tiny taste of these giants. Fallen trees, massive root systems, towering trees. We posed like others at the Founders Tree with its height of 346 feet and circumference of 40 feet. I witnessed awe and delight on every face I passed.

As I left, I shared my gratitude to these elders for their teachings. They whispered one more message to me. One that broke open my heart.

I realized in that moment that nature knows who we are and sees us clearly. And not just we as a human race, but me as a little personality. The wise ones had seen into my heart and reflected this back to me.

Being seen like that inspired me to live as one who loves purely, seeds beauty, gives generously, and honors all forms of life.

I’ll probably need many more hikes to truly live that aspiration. But, I know my teachers are waiting for my arrival, eager to whisper what I most need to learn.

Sssshhh, Let Go. Just Be. Patience. Nature adorns itself with Beauty. At-home-ment. Tenacity. Silence and Trust. Wonder. Strength. Ease. And the greatest of these was Love.

The Japanese Society of Forest Medicine researches the therapeutic benefits of forests on human health and wellbeing. Forest bathing involves walking slowly, mindfully as you open the senses, notice your response, and enjoy the ecosystem. Statistics indicate that the average American spends 93 percent of the time indoors and about ten hours a day on social media. That can’t be good for your health. Forest bathing research revealed benefits such as strengthening the immune system, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, boosting overall sense of well being, and improving cardiovascular and metabolic health.
