While I loved creating when I was younger, my artistic side was mostly dormant in my adult life. This changed the day I received a clear message from my Soul to “make more art.” So, I did. I was surprised by my visions of mystical teachings within beautiful mixed media paintings. I’d like to say I spent my life creating art, but that simply isn’t true.
When I was young, I loved arts and crafts. I wasn’t so talented in art class, yet I loved creating collages, pop up art, and shoebox dioramas. From time to time my artistic streak would awaken as my friends and I would create and sell little works of art. (Door to door! Back when you could do that sort of thing.) I was happy and free during my artistic bursts. Yet everything halted as I started working part time and headed off to college.
I imagine my inner artist went to sleep after being ignored for so long.
You know how that goes. Growing up in a world focused on achievement, working, and responsible adulting robbed me of the joy of creating art. I got a little taste of arts and crafts as my daughter grew up, but not enough to reignite my creative spark. Until the day she wanted to make an art journal and we enthusiastically painted, glued and collaged.
It was a free for all. Messy. Fun. Artistic.
Our art adventure fizzled out quickly and left me with one tiny canvas worth displaying. I knew I had fun, but never considered it might be an inspired seed. Fast forward a few months. I was teaching an Angelic Illumination workshop at Soul Sanctuary. Our group paused to listen to the guidance of the Angels.
As I sat in that delicious silence, I heard one phrase: “Make more art.”
Truth be told, I would’ve blown off that invitation. After the workshop, I ran off to a family party which diverted my attention. I totally forgot that Soul Whisper amidst the enjoyment of it all. And then I caught a wicked cold. I wasn’t alone. There were 10 of us party goers who caught the sniffles. Two weeks later, everyone recovered. Not me. When things took a turn for the worse, I knew something significant was happening. Last time I experienced this kind of thing, I ended up with a baby (but that’s another story entirely). When I tuned in to find out what was really going on, I heard the same invitation. “Make more art.” So, I did. For 7 weeks, I went to work, watched Netflix, slept a lot and planted myself at my art table.
Day and night, visions of mystical teachings infused with energy flowed through my mind.
Every painting was built layer upon layer in an intuitively directed fashion as I prayed a Soulful Invitation and its energetic resonance into the materials. I enjoyed the freedom of working like I did when I was a teenager. I was creating for the sheer joy of revealing something beautiful. Along the way, I met the The Energetic Muse and began to work in coordination with this creative, inspiring energy.
I awakened my Sacred Artist and I’m not letting her go back to sleep.
